Mountain park above Addis Ababa with hiking, zip-lining, horse riding and city views.
Entoto Park is a large recreational park on Mount Entoto, the ridge that rises above the north of Addis Ababa at around 3,000 metres. Inaugurated on 10 October 2020 as part of the city's green projects, it offers forest walking and cycling trails, zip-lining, horse riding, archery and other adventure activities, along with cafes, restaurants and panoramic views over the capital.
The park stretches through the eucalyptus forest of Mount Entoto, with landscaped areas, viewpoints and activity zones. Adventure operators run zip lines, rope courses, go-karts and other activities, while quieter trails suit walkers and families.
Nearby is the historic Entoto Maryam church, where Emperor Menelik II was crowned, and the original site of the imperial capital before Addis Ababa was founded below.
Entoto is the quickest escape from city traffic to cool mountain air. Families love the activities, hikers enjoy the forest trails, and the views at sunset over Addis Ababa are excellent. It also adds history if you include Entoto Maryam and the old Menelik palace site.
Menelik II first set up his capital on the Entoto ridge in the 1880s before moving down to the warmer valley where Taytu founded Addis Ababa. The ridge was later planted with eucalyptus to supply the city with timber and fuel. Entoto Park was inaugurated on 10 October 2020 as one of the capital’s major green spaces.
October to May is dry and clear, with the best views. Mornings are cool and fresh; afternoons can be hazy. Weekends are busy with local families.
| Period | What to expect |

| Weekday mornings | Quieter trails. |

Entoto Park is about 10 to 15 kilometres north of central Addis Ababa. The drive up the winding mountain road takes 30 to 45 minutes from Bole, depending on traffic.
Half a day is ideal: a walk or activity, lunch with a view, and a stop at Entoto Maryam.
