Your Ethiopian coffee adventure begins in Jimma, the vibrant gateway to the southwest. Upon arrival, you will explore the Palace of King Abba Jifar II, an impressive site that reflects the grandeur of one of Ethiopia’s last great monarchs. A visit to the Jimma Museum follows, where royal artifacts and cultural treasures offer a glimpse into the region’s Oromo heritage. After breakfast, the journey continues toward Bonga, the capital of Kaffa and widely regarded as the birthplace of Arabica coffee. The drive reveals rolling hills, fertile farmland, and glimpses of rural life. In Bonga, we will experience local hospitality with a visit to a traditional Kaffa house and immerse ourselves in the customs of the region. Natural attractions such as Adiyo Falls, Ellelo, and the Gora Hot Springs add scenic beauty to the day. The third day takes us deep into the Mankira Forest, part of the UNESCO-recognized Kafa Biosphere Reserve and believed to be the original home of Arabica coffee. Trekking beneath towering trees and through verdant coffee groves, we will encounter wild coffee plants growing in their natural habitat—an unforgettable moment for any coffee enthusiast. Along the way, visits to the Adaracha Medhane Alem Church and the dramatic Gurguto Natural Bridge enrich the journey with cultural and natural wonders. This day highlights not only the ecological importance of the region but also its enduring spiritual and cultural connections to coffee. Overnight in Bonga.
Today, we will travel to the legendary Bebeka Coffee Plantation, Ethiopia’s largest and oldest coffee estate. Spanning over 6,000 hectares, Bebeka is a living classroom where you can learn every step of coffee production, from seedling cultivation to harvesting, drying, and processing. Walking through both cultivated fields and wild forest coffee zones, we will gain a unique appreciation for the diversity of Ethiopia’s coffee landscapes. The plantation also showcases spice gardens and honey production, adding to the richness of the experience. Overnight accommodation is available in plantation guesthouses or under the stars for those who wish to camp amidst the coffee fields.
On our final day, we will spend the morning at Bebeka Coffee Plantation engaging in hands-on experiences, including coffee tasting sessions that highlight the distinct flavors of Ethiopian beans. This immersive farewell ensures that you not only see but also taste the legacy of Ethiopian coffee at its source. In the afternoon, the journey returns to Jimma for a short flight back to Addis Ababa. The tour concludes with a farewell cultural dinner accompanied by live music and one last Ethiopian coffee ceremony—a perfect closing to an unforgettable journey through the birthplace of Arabica coffee.
